Towards inclusive environmental governance in the Arganeraie Biosphere Reserve, Morocco

Arganeraie Biosphere Reserve (ABR) in Morocco was established 1998. Today the reserve covers 2.5 million hectares and more than 3 people and, as such, it has been a complex social-ecological system to govern. Authors draw on postnormal conservation science environmental governance studies investigate processes within ABR shed light their outcomes challenges date. First, authors analyse how Moroccan institutions are managing this vast territory. Second, we look at perceptions of an extended peer community decision-makers. This research adds empirical case study North African region addresses two main weaknesses UNESCO Reserves worldwide: 1) effective 2) shortcomings implementation. Through ethnographic approach, able point out low strategic priority weak political will regarding may be hindering inclusive governance.
